Fall CSA pickup is Oct. 2

Hello, CSA members! Don’t forget that Wednesday, Oct. 2, is your fall CSA pickup. We’ve got a great big beautiful load of fall fruits and vegetables for you. This pickup will be at the big barn behind the farmhouse. Please remember to bring any containers you have saved from previous pickups. This is also a great time to re-join the CSA for the 2014 season. Don’t forget that you can still get a 10 percent discount up until Nov. 1. CSA members will be able to pick raspberries between 9 a.m. and noon. Members can pick up to two pints of berries, before we say goodbye to them until next summer.

As a CSA member, you will be able to choose to receive either 4 pre-picked medium pumpkins, or go out into the field to collect 6 pick-your-own pumpkins, which can be jumbo in size if you like. You can drive your car to the pumpkin field to make this easier. Please dress accordingly and wear proper shoes. You will also have the option to pick your own bunch of sunflowers. Pick-your-own pumpkins and sunflowers runs from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Snead’s Farm will open for fall pumpkin-picking on Sept. 28 (visit our website for full Fall Festival details). When you come on Wednesday for pickup, we will have free hayrides for CSA members and the general public from 9 a.m. until noon.

Special September bonus for CSA members: PYO raspberries!

Here’s a special September bonus for Snead’s Farm CSA members. Come to the farm any Wednesday in September or on the October pickup day (Oct. 2) between 9 a.m. and noon. You will be able to pick up to 2 pints of raspberries. This has been a great year for raspberries! Just stop by the picking station near the house and identify yourself as a CSA member.

You can also visit Braehead Farm any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday in September between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and pick one pepper and one eggplant. Braehead is inside the Fredericksburg city limits, learn more about the farm here.

Thanks for a great summer, we’ll see you Oct. 2 for the fall pickup. Don’t forget to save those boxes and cartons to bring back!
